Description:
In order to involve students in the community we came up with a cellphone application that will streamline the whole community service process. Students will be able to see all the community service opportunities in FIU based on their interests. There will be a list of options, from which they can select, which will narrow their search. The list will include areas of interest such as health, education, community, art, homeless, children at risk and also the age of people that the students might be interested in working with. After choosing their preferences, the application will send alerts about upcoming events. Moreover, they will have the opportunity to RSVP to the events. Once they RSVP, the events will appear in a calendar that will also be part of the application, in order to help students organize their time. In addition, students will have the option to set a reminder for the events. Our app will be connected to the Honors College in order to allow students to submit their required community service hours through it. In addition, if students are going to volunteer in places that require a background check for the position, such as schools or hospitals, they will be able to request it through the app. Finally, the app will also serve as a social media platform where students will be able to share community service event information, invite friends to events, as well as a platform for official organizers to share pictures and videos of their events. Skills required: Prior experience with Coding, Apple Software (for the creation of the iOS app for the iPhone).
